Excavator Sorting Buckets

Sorting buckets and rakes let you separate material on site with the excavator you already have: soil from stone, fines from rubble, roots from topsoil. Sort it where it lies and you can reuse the good material on the job instead of paying to take it away.

There are four types in the range, each suited to a different job:

Attachment Best for Machine sizes
Riddle buckets Sorting rubble, stone and soil as you dig 1–25 tonnes
Screening buckets Screening topsoil, compost and aggregate in volume 4–22 tonnes
Land rakes Clearing stones and debris from topsoil for a clean finish 1–25 tonnes
Root rakes Tearing out roots and brush on clearance and forestry work 1–24 tonnes

Every attachment is finished to suit your machine's linkage. Send us your excavator and hitch details and we'll confirm the right size. Looking for a standard bucket? Browse all our excavator buckets.

Picking bulky pieces out of a mixed pile, such as demolition waste, rock or scrap? That's a job for an excavator selector grab.

Which Sorting Attachment Do You Need?

Start with the job rather than the attachment:

  • Sorting what you dig: a riddle bucket. Load it, shake it and the soil falls through the bars while stone and rubble stay behind.
  • Screening large volumes or finer material: a screening bucket. A hydraulic drum does the sorting, so there's no shaking.
  • Finishing topsoil before turf or seeding: a land rake. It pulls stones and roots off the surface without digging in.
  • Clearing overgrown or wooded ground: a root rake. Heavy serrated tines tear out roots and brush and leave the soil behind.

Why Sort on Site?

Sorting material where it's dug means fewer lorry loads going off site and less topsoil or fill being bought back in. Screened soil can go straight back into landscaping, and clean stone and hardcore can be reused or sent for recycling.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a riddle bucket and a screening bucket?

A riddle bucket has fixed bars and relies on you shaking it to sort material. A screening bucket has a hydraulically driven drum that rotates to do the sorting. It's smoother on the machine and better with fine material, but it needs auxiliary hydraulics and costs more.

Do sorting buckets need hydraulics?

Only the screening buckets. Riddle buckets, land rakes and root rakes fit like a standard bucket with no hydraulic connections.

Will they fit my excavator?

Each attachment is finished to order with the right linkage for your machine. Tell us your excavator make and model and your quick hitch details and we'll confirm the fit before it's made.

How long does delivery take?
