Excavator Timber Grabs

Excavator timber grabs are heavy-duty hydraulic log grabs built to work under an excavator. Two interlocking arms with hardened steel legs and cutting edge make them far tougher than free-hanging crane log grabs, and they handle stumps, stones and rocks as well as logs.

A continuous radius inside the legs and an asymmetric design roll logs into the centre of the grip, and the geometry holds even the smallest limbs tight against the housing. Every size is available with or without a 360° rotator and comes with a headstock to fit your machine.

Timber grab Excavator size Weight Hydraulic circuits
1–2 tonne timber grab 1–2 tonnes 54kg One double-acting (two with rotator)
2–3.5 tonne timber grab 2–3.5 tonnes 73kg One double-acting (two with rotator)
4–6 tonne timber grab 4–6 tonnes 176kg One double-acting (two with rotator)
6–10 tonne timber grab 6–10 tonnes 350kg One double-acting (two with rotator)
10–16 tonne timber grab 10–16 tonnes 514kg One double-acting (two with rotator)
17–22 tonne timber grab 17–22 tonnes 589kg One double-acting (two with rotator)

Why Use a Timber Grab?

A timber grab is purpose-built for forestry work under an excavator. The legs open wide but close very tight to the body, and the cylinder stroke is set so even small limbs are gripped firmly, which stops logs slipping as you load, sort and stack them.

What Timber Grabs Are Used For

  • Forestry and woodland work
  • Loading, sorting and stacking logs
  • Handling timber after felling or thinning
  • Clearing stumps, brash and debris
  • Moving stones and rocks on land clearance jobs

With or Without a Rotator?

Without the rotator, a timber grab runs on one double-acting circuit and costs less. The 360° rotator lets you line the grab up with each log and stack timber neatly without moving the machine, but it needs a second double-acting circuit.

Hydraulics and Fitment

The timber grabs are rated at 200 bar and 50 l/min. Each one is supplied with a headstock to fit your machine, so send us your excavator make and model, hitch details and auxiliary hydraulics when you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a timber grab handle stumps and rocks?

Yes. It's optimised for logs, but it is also very effective for handling stumps, stones and rocks.

Timber grab or folding grab?

A timber grab is shaped to roll logs into the centre and grip them tight, so it suits forestry and log handling. A folding grab has 7 interlocking tines and suits mixed material such as brash, stone and scrap as well as logs.

What size timber grab do I need for a mini digger?

The 1–2 tonne and 2–3.5 tonne timber grabs are sized for mini diggers.

How long does delivery take?

Usually 7 to 10 working days, as each one is confirmed to suit your machine before it's supplied. Ask us if you need it sooner.
