17–22 Tonne Excavator Timber Grab
Delivery within 7–10 Working Days*
The 17–22 tonne excavator timber grab is a heavy-duty hydraulic log grab built to work under an excavator. Its two interlocking arms, with hardened steel legs and cutting edge, make it far tougher than a free-hanging crane log grab, and it handles stumps, stones and rocks as well as logs.
A continuous radius inside the legs and an asymmetric design roll logs into the centre of the grip, and the leg geometry and cylinder stroke let it hold even the smallest limbs tight against the housing to stop them slipping. The legs open wide but close very tight to the body.
It runs off one double-acting hydraulic circuit, or two if you add the 360° rotator, and it's supplied with a headstock to fit your machine. Choose with or without the rotator when you order.

With or Without the Rotator?
Without the rotator, the grab costs less and runs on one circuit. The rotator version turns through 360°, so you can line the grab up with each log and stack timber neatly without repositioning the machine. It needs a second double-acting circuit.
Where It Works Best
- Forestry and woodland work
- Loading, sorting and stacking logs
- Handling timber after felling or thinning
- Clearing stumps, brash and debris
- Moving stones and rocks on land clearance jobs
Hydraulic Requirements
The grab needs one double-acting hydraulic circuit, or two with the rotator, and it's rated at 200 bar and 50 l/min. Connections vary between machines and quick hitches, so send us details or photos of yours before ordering. Don't assume hoses, couplings or installation parts are included unless they are listed on your quote.
Excavator and Quick-Hitch Compatibility
Machine weight is only a starting point. Excavators in the same weight class can use different pin sizes, linkage widths, quick hitches and auxiliary hydraulics, so please send us the following when you order:
- Excavator make and model
- Machine operating weight
- Quick hitch make and model, if you run one
- Pin diameter and pin centres
- Dipper width
- Details of your auxiliary hydraulic circuits
Our guide on how to measure an excavator for a new bucket shows how to take the pin measurements. If you can't measure, send us photos of your hitch and we'll help.
Delivery and Ordering
Each timber grab is supplied with a headstock to suit your confirmed machine and hitch. Delivery is usually within 7 to 10 working days, although factory lead times can change this. If you need the grab for a fixed date, contact us before ordering so we can confirm the current lead time.
17–22 Tonne Timber Grab FAQs
Can it handle stumps and rocks?
Yes. It's optimised for logs, but the timber grab is also very effective for handling stumps, stones and rocks.
Do I need the rotator?
Not for most jobs. The 360° rotator lets you line the grab up with each log and lay timber in neat stacks without moving the machine, but it needs a second double-acting circuit.
What hydraulics does it need?
One double-acting hydraulic circuit, or two if you choose the rotator. It's rated at 200 bar and 50 l/min.
Is the headstock included?
Yes. It's supplied with a headstock to fit your machine, so send us your excavator and hitch details when you order.
Will it fit my 17–22 tonne excavator?
Machine weight is the starting point, but excavators in the same class can use different pins, linkage widths and quick hitches. Send us your machine model and hitch details and we'll confirm fitment before the grab is supplied.
Other Sizes
