Forklift Goods Cages & Platforms

Forklift goods cages and goods platforms move the loads that can't go on bare forks: wheeled products, doors and panels, loose items that need a cage round them, and goods going on and off a lorry bed. Each one goes onto your forks through fork pockets, and none of them are for lifting people.

Cage or platform Capacity Best for
Goods transfer platform 1000kg Wheeled and awkward loads, with a folding ramp, made to your size
Folding goods transfer platform 1000kg The same job, folding to 383mm high for storage
Lorry loading platform 1000kg Moving pallets and boxes on and off a lorry bed
Forklift door carrying cage 1000kg Doors and flat panels, upright in 125mm partitions
Universal lifting cage 2500kg A Euro pallet or an 1100L wheelie bin, by forklift or crane

All five are UKCA marked and certificated to the Machinery Directive. Prices depend on size and options, so request a quote with what you're moving and your forklift make, model and fork sizes.

How to Choose a Forklift Goods Cage or Platform

Start with what you're moving, then check the size, the weight and the fit.

What are you moving?

Size and capacity

The goods transfer platforms are made to the length and width you need and carry up to 1000kg. The lorry loading platform and door cage are also rated at 1000kg, and the universal lifting cage at 2500kg. Your forklift carries the cage as well as the load, so add the cage's own weight (223kg for the door cage, 330kg for the universal cage and 338kg for the lorry loading platform) and check your truck's capacity at the right load centre.

Fork fit

Each cage or platform goes onto your forks through fork pockets. Measure the width and thickness of your forks and the spread you can set them to, and send us the figures with your forklift make and model. The lorry loading platform takes forks up to 140 x 60mm, and the door cage forks up to 140 x 40mm.

Where Goods Cages Are Used

Warehouses, factories and logistics sites use goods transfer platforms to move wheeled stock and awkward items between locations and heights. Door and joinery makers use the door cage between the workshop, the van and the site. Sites without a loading dock use the lorry loading platform to load and unload lorries, and the universal lifting cage moves pallets and bins by crane as well as by forklift.

Using Goods Cages Safely

  • Never carry people in a goods cage or on a goods platform
  • Lock the cage or platform to the forks with its heel locking system or retention before you lift
  • Secure every load with the chains, straps, retaining bar or tie-downs provided
  • Travel with the load low and keep people out of the area under a raised load
  • Lifting equipment needs regular thorough examination under LOLER, so ask your examiner which interval applies

Our guide to forklift safety cages explains the rules for lifting people, and why goods cages can't be used for it.

Forklift Goods Cage FAQs

Can people ride on a goods platform?

No. The goods transfer platforms are not suitable for man riding, and none of these cages and platforms are designed for lifting people. For work at height, see our forklift man cages and safety cages, or our crane man baskets for crane work.

Can you make a platform to my size?

Yes. Both goods transfer platforms are made to the length and width you specify. Options on the standard platform include a gate, meshed sides, lifting lugs and extra ramps.

Will a goods cage fit my forklift?

Send us your fork width, thickness and spread with your forklift make and model, and we'll confirm the fit before you order.

How long does delivery take?

Most are made to order, so we confirm the price and lead time with your quote. Request a quote to get started.
