Excavator Selector Grabs

Excavator selector grabs are heavy-duty hydraulic sorting grabs for demolition, material and waste handling, and stone or rock processing. Reversible, bolt-on hardened cutting edges and toeplates that keep pinching together as they wear give a tight grip, while a pressure relief valve and manual stoppers protect the cylinder.

Choose a fixed selector grab, which runs on a single double-acting circuit, or a rotating selector grab with a 360° hydraulic rotator, which needs two. Every grab is supplied with a headstock to fit your machine.

How a Selector Grab Works

A selector grab has two heavy legs that close together under a hydraulic cylinder. The toeplates pinch together for a tight grip and keep meeting as the reversible, bolt-on cutting edges wear, so the grab still picks up small pieces late in its life. A pressure relief valve stops the cylinder putting excessive force on the edges and legs, and manual stoppers stop the legs opening beyond safe limits.

The fixed grabs use tine-style legs, while the rotating grabs use perforated shell-style legs.

Fixed or Rotating?

A fixed selector grab uses a 2-way crosslink instead of a rotator, which keeps the cost down and needs just one double-acting circuit. A rotating selector grab turns through 360°, so you can sort, load and place material precisely in tight spots without repositioning the machine. It needs two double-acting circuits.

What Selector Grabs Are Used For

  • Demolition and strip-out work
  • Sorting mixed waste and loading skips
  • Material handling on construction and recycling sites
  • Stone and rock handling
  • Handling scrap and bulky debris

Choosing the Right Size

Match the grab to your excavator's operating weight, then check the opening against the material you'll be handling. If your machine sits between two sizes, ask us before ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a selector grab?

A heavy-duty hydraulic sorting grab for demolition, waste handling, material processing and stone or rock. It picks material out and places it precisely, which is why it is often called a sorting or demolition grab.

What hydraulics does a selector grab need?

A fixed selector grab needs one double-acting hydraulic circuit. A rotating selector grab needs two, one for the grab and one for the rotator.

Is the headstock included?

Yes. Every selector grab is supplied with a headstock designed to fit your machine, so send us your excavator and hitch details when you order.

How long does delivery take?

Usually 7 to 10 working days, as each one is confirmed to suit your machine before it's supplied. Ask us if you need it sooner.
