1.5–3 Tonne Excavator Flail Mower – 800mm & 1000mm
Delivery within 7–10 Working Days*
The 1.5–3 tonne excavator flail mower is built for mini diggers cutting grass, brush and hedgerow growth on banks, verges and overgrown plots. Choose an 800mm or 1000mm head, both fitted with Y-blades that cut material up to 20mm thick.
A high-torque direct drive motor spins the rotor, and the Y-blades cut and chop whatever the head passes over. The self-levelling head follows the ground, a height-adjustable roller sets the cutting height, and a pre-set flow control valve with anti-shock and anti-cavitation protection looks after the motor. On the end of an excavator arm, the flail has the reach to cut banks, ditch sides and hedges from the cab.
It's supplied with two hoses for flow and return and needs no drain line. Check your excavator's auxiliary flow against the figures below, then send us your machine and hitch details so we can confirm fitment before it's supplied.

Which Width?
The 800mm head runs on 22–30 l/min and weighs 132kg. The 1000mm head covers more ground with each pass but needs 27–38 l/min and weighs 158kg, so check your machine's auxiliary flow and lifting limits before choosing the wider head.
Where It Works Best
This size suits mini diggers doing regular grounds and clearance work:
- Cutting grass and brush on banks, verges and slopes
- Clearing overgrown plots and paddocks
- Trimming hedge sides and field margins
- Maintaining ditch banks and drainage routes
- Keeping fence lines and site boundaries clear
Y-Blades or Hammer Blades?
This flail is fitted with Y-blades, which suit grass, weeds and lighter growth up to 20mm thick. For thicker brush and hedgerow wood, the 3–7 tonne and 5–10 tonne flail mowers use heavier-duty hammer blades that cut material up to 40mm and 80mm thick.
Hydraulic Requirements
The 800mm head needs 22–30 l/min of oil flow and the 1000mm head 27–38 l/min, both at a maximum pressure of 200 bar. The flail is supplied with two hoses for flow and return and needs no drain line. If your machine's auxiliary flow is below the range, the rotor won't reach full speed and the cut will suffer, so check your manual or spec sheet before ordering. Don't assume couplings or installation parts are included unless they are listed on your quote.
Before You Start
A flail mower can throw stones and debris, so keep everyone well clear of the working area, and walk the ground first for wire, fencing, stones and other hidden objects. Check hedges, scrub and long grass for nesting birds. In England, hedgerows on or next to farmland can't be cut or trimmed from 1 March to 31 August unless an exception applies. Our guide on how to use an excavator flail mower covers set-up, cutting technique and the rules.
Excavator and Quick-Hitch Compatibility
Machine weight is only a starting point. Excavators in the same weight class can use different pin sizes, linkage widths, quick hitches and auxiliary hydraulics, so please send us the following when you order:
- Excavator make and model
- Machine operating weight
- Quick hitch make and model, if you run one
- Pin diameter and pin centres
- Dipper width
- Auxiliary hydraulic flow and pressure, from your manual or spec sheet
Our guide on how to measure an excavator for a new bucket shows how to take the pin measurements. If you can't measure, send us photos of your hitch and we'll help.
Delivery and Ordering
Each flail mower is confirmed to suit your machine before it's supplied. Delivery is usually within 7 to 10 working days, although factory lead times can change this. If you need it for a fixed date, contact us before ordering so we can confirm the current lead time.
1.5–3 Tonne Flail Mower FAQs
What can it cut?
Its Y-blades cut grass, brush and hedgerow growth up to 20mm thick. For thicker material, step up to the 3–7 tonne flail mower.
What oil flow does it need?
The 800mm head needs 22–30 l/min of oil flow and the 1000mm head 27–38 l/min, both at a maximum pressure of 200 bar. Check your excavator's auxiliary flow in its manual or spec sheet, or send us your machine details and we'll check it for you.
Does it need a drain line?
No. It comes with two hoses for flow and return and doesn't need a case drain.
Will it fit my 1.5–3 tonne excavator?
Machine weight is the starting point, but excavators in the same class can use different pins, linkage widths, quick hitches and hydraulic flows. Send us your machine model, hitch details and auxiliary flow, and we'll confirm fitment before the flail is supplied.
