The 6–9 tonne excavator ripper hook breaks up ground that a bucket struggles with: compacted ground, hardcore, frozen ground and rock. All the machine's force goes through a single tooth instead of a full bucket edge, so it bites in where a bucket would skid and loosens the ground ready to dig out.

It has a 50mm shank, works to a depth of 596mm and takes a replaceable J250 CAT-type tooth point, angled at 30° so the load runs straight through the tooth and shank when you crowd in. Abrasion-resistant AR HB400 steel protects the sides, back and leading edge, and box-section strengthening at the top of the shank, with double welds, resists the side loads of levering. It's finished with the linkage to suit your excavator.

  • Frozen ground
  • Loosening roots and stumps
  • Breaking up ground before digging it out with a bucket
  • Quarry and demolition work

Ripper or Bucket?

A ripper doesn't replace your bucket. You rip the ground first, then dig it out. On ground hard enough to stall a bucket, ripping first is usually quicker overall and saves wear on your bucket teeth and your machine. For concrete and solid rock that a ripper can't loosen, see our excavator breakers.

Excavator and Quick-Hitch Compatibility

Machine weight is only a starting point. Excavators in the same weight class can use different pin sizes, linkage widths and quick hitches, so the ripper is finished with the linkage to suit your machine. When you order, send us:

  • Excavator make and model
  • Machine operating weight
  • Quick hitch make and model, if you run one
  • Pin diameter and pin centres
  • Dipper width

Our guide on how to measure an excavator for a new bucket shows how to take the pin measurements. If you can't measure, send us photos of your hitch and we'll help.

Delivery and Ordering

Each ripper is confirmed to suit your machine before it's supplied. Delivery is usually within 7 to 10 working days, although factory lead times can change this. If you need it for a fixed date, contact us before ordering so we can confirm the current lead time.

6–9 Tonne Ripper Hook FAQs

What is a ripper hook used for?

Breaking up compacted ground, hardcore, frozen ground and rock so you can dig it out with a bucket, and loosening roots and stumps.

Which tooth does it take?

A replaceable J250 CAT-type tooth point. Points wear, so swap them before the shank starts to wear. Replacement points are widely available in different shapes for different ground.

Does it need hydraulics?

No. It works off the excavator's own digging force.

Will it fit my 6–9 tonne excavator?

It's finished with the linkage to suit your machine. Send us your make, model, pin diameter, pin centres, dipper width and quick hitch details and we'll confirm it before it's supplied.
